what

"On June 28, 1969, the Stonewall Rebellion began when Black transgender women led an uprising against police brutality in the streets of New York City as a revolt against the frequent and violent police raids of gay bars. We celebrate pride month in honor of those transgender, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and queer, majority racially oppressed people, who fought the police for their right to live, love, and express their authentic selves. We recognize their work and sacrifice towards paving the way for the LGBT liberation movement as we know it today.

As this year's pride month comes to an end, we are gathering as a community to celebrate and discuss how in 2020, pride is the most authentic it has been in many, many years. For too long, pride has been co-opted by capitalism with pride parades that welcome police, corporations that only seek to profit off us with performative “love and acceptance”, and products temporarily adorned with rainbows. This year, we instead join street protests in the rebellion against police brutality, racism, and white supremacy.

On this, the last day of June 2020, we are reflecting on the importance of solidarity and unity between movements, honoring those who came and fought before us, and finishing the work that they started: full liberation and freedom for all. There will be speeches, and an open mic so that participants can speak as well!

Join us at Veterans Park in Manchester @ 6PM - 8PM

Please wear a mask and keep your distance from other participants."
